Default Infini-mix from A&P Orchids

Hi, Has anyone had any experience w/the Infini-mix that A&POrchids has put together. I bought a bag & am trying it but it's only been a month so no results so far. Thanks, as always, for the great advice I get from this board.

Never heard of it before, but let me make a few comments to consider:

1) Orchids can be grown in any medium, but it, plus your growing conditions and watering habits must work together to be successful. Just because a medium is great for one, has no bearing on whether it's any good at all for another grower.

2) The claim that it never has to be replaced because it doesn't decompose is missing the fact that all media build up minerals and plant waste deposits, so do, ultimately, have to be replaced.

Thank you Ray. #2 is a good point.

Hi,
I recently purchased some of this product from A&P Orchids. Impulsive purchase.

I am curious what type of orchid(s) you have tried this with and did you find it beneficial in any way? Or detrimental to the growth of the plant(s)?

I am skeptical to use it now that I have gained some knowledge of orchids and medium, but certainly have ALLOT more to learn.

Thank you!

I realize this is an old thread, but I just saw it and thought I'd give my 2 cents worth on Infinimix. I have used this mix for my catasetum alliance orchids and also for my habenarias. These plants all go dormant during winter. It's been 3 years using the Infinimix and so far they are doing great in it. I've yet to try it with any other orchids I have. Here are couple pics of those growing in it.

I looked at the plants A&P offered for sale at the CT show, and most of their plants were in that mix (incl. Sarcochilus and Brassavola nodosa).

They obviously do well with it, but I am not aware of any other commercial growers switching to that mix.

I probably have to categorize it similar to the ProMix used by Stony Brook Orchids:

They have figured out how to use it, but it is not something I would recommend to the average hobby grower.
