I am concerned about my watering habits and decided tonight is the night to remove all media and have a look at the root system , although there are new root shoots , I am not sure if i should trim off some of the old ones and how much and when i place them in the pot do i rest them on there side and bury them or is there a technique to it .

The roots older look good to me, I sometimes if thinking one root is rotting and dead i will gently tug. If it peels off in my hand I will trim that area up a bit. But they really look good. I always set it towards the side of my new pot and then gently put in the new potting media around the plant to make sure not to break the roots. If you feel like they are not getting enough air, you can insert a couple of styrofoam peanuts in the middle of the root to help with the potting soil from impacting.

Although I have found that sometimes my oncidiums fall over because I put them to far to the side....

I have a big bag of clay pebbles and will give these a try in that medium , seems as though the sphag moss is getting some algae buildup and i am using t5 lights as my light source . is algae growth bad for the orchid ?

thanks for your input
