The traits you described are very typical of Phals in general.

wow well im not complaining i wish all of my orchids had roots like these! they were amazing! i wish i had the conditions to grow my orchids in Baskets or mounted so that i could marvel at the beauty of their roots! im always so pleased when my orchids roots come over the sides because its so beautiful to me!
Philip thank you about the info on the root trimming on phals and on the other orchid types! i really appreciate the help

Thirty years ago , the recommended way to re-pot an orchid was to cut all the roots to a length 2/3 the depth of the pot.

I cut long roots most of the time.

Healthy plants can live through anything.
