Imagine it's like remains you're not allowed to touch for cultural and legal reasons. Just leave it alone and make sketches.

Lol, I will have to remember this when I'm itching to do a repot!

Well, as there are no bulldozers closing in on these "remains" I have the luxury of time to think about it. Will let it get acclimated, and see how it does. I actually cut the pot to loosen it and create better air flow...there are no slots or holes in it, just the air cone bottom.

The media is very broken down and has a slight off odor to it. That is what makes me worry about getting some of it out. The roots are growing through the bottom, but not too bad around the sides, so I might be able to clean off some where I can. The roots also took a beating during shipping, most of the bottom roots and aerial roots are cracked.

If E.S. says it is OK to wait for new growth, then I will nurse it along and see how it does. No worries, no hurries....

Not quite a basket, but I like the shape of this, and with some holes it might work if I maybe just set the whole plant in and add some media to the sides to encourage root growth on those high side pseudobulbs?

As a side note, nomatter what you'll do, this seems to an unruly plant so you must find the best repot technique to minimize repotings in the future.

Not sure what I will do. But yes, a long term plan seems better. I may well just divide it and hope for the best in the next growth cycle. If it sets it back so be it. Pots work best for me. I have it in my ICU plastic mini-greenhouse under lights with humidifier. I have lots of time to think about it. My other onc. are growing like weeds.

Been googling Massai Splash, it seems a very vigorous plant. I really think that is what this one is.
