Grammatophyllum scriptum- HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went out in the shade house this afternoon and found that a giant meteor had landed on the ground. Not a real meteor just my Grammatophyllum scriptum. It's in a 14" plastic basket on a 4 point hanger. Well, "was" on a 4 pt hanger. Most of the basket is still in there somewhere but one corner where a wire was attached did snap off. This thing has to weigh 40#. Anyone have any thoughts on what my next step should be? I hate to blow it up. This past spring it had 6 gorgeous spikes on it. The only thought I have at the moment is to build it a 4-sided stand. I have some left over composite decking and a couple years ago I made one for my giant Staghorn fern that has worked out great. But the fern wasn't THIS big! I also can't believe none of the pseudobulbs got smashed. They protrude off the basket all around and under and it fell about 4 feet. I'm listening...........

Put it in a wheelbarrow with some bark and park it in front of your house as a decoration. Or just build a big basket, fill with bark and set the plant on top.
If you have an appropriate tree I would chop off a piece and attach it to the tree.

I like the wheelbarrow idea. An old, rusty one with holes in the pan. In the Keys, does it need the pot? You could run some heavy guage wire through the rootball and hang it back up.

does it need to be moveable? these do great on the ground in a big pile of chunky mulch.
otherwise. try to make a hammock or sling out of hardwarecloth and back fill with medium

It has been dealt with. The rope sling attached to heavy duty pot hanger seems to be good solution. Hanging under edge of house on east side of southeast corner. I hope it likes it there because I'm not moving it again. I grossly misjudged the weight. Much closer to 60#.
