I need some ideas on mounting this B David Sanders SVO x B David Sanders Just As Nice. I got it from Fred Clarke a couple years ago, it is growing nicely but obviously needs something more. All advice is welcome and greatly appreciated.

Why do you want to mount it? It seems happy where it is. If it's not flowering - is it old enough? Is it getting enough light? Enough fertilizer?

I got this one from Fred 3 years ago. It is a beast but it hasn't flowered, one of the very few mature plants that I have had a problem flowering. I'm stumped because every cattleya surrounding it blooms on time

I got 2 very small plants in November of 2020. It is getting bright light in summer and a little mid day sun in winter, I live in SW Florida. Plenty of a variety of appropriate fertilizers. ??

David Sanders can be slow to bloom, especially if not getting enough light.

Instead of mounting, have you considered a slat basket? Lots of air, so with the right bark, you can water the daylights out of it with impunity, and hang it high for more sun.

slat basket is the way to go and let the canes hang down and spread out. they are trying to spread out in the pot and the plant will win.

Slat Baskets I know, I use them for my Vandas, a couple Angraecums and a big leaf Phal that, in fact Ray suggested would be an answer to its gigantic leaves hanging over the pot. Question though, should I just place loose on like lava rock and secure to bottom and sides. I am not sure how to accomplish this.

wrap a small amount of sphagnum around the roots. put the plant into the basket. use bamboo skewers to secure the plant, as many as you need. The roots must be secure, every little wiggle takes a day out of growing. Secure bamboo to slats. Fill with your medium of choise. In time you should be able to pull out the left over skewers. Once the roots have outgrown the sphagnum ball in the middle into the mix, they will eventually move out of the basket. Plant and roots are now secure for life

Put a coarse mesh liner in the basket to contain the medium better.

Place a layer of medium on the bottom, and set the plant in and fill around it with more medium.

Wrap a strand of fishing line through the middle of the plant colony and around the outside of the basket, one time in each direction parallel to the sides (I’m assuming a square basket) and tie it tightly. That’ll hold the plant firmly in place until it grows enough roots to grab its container.
