Hello all!

I got this compot of Blc. Copper Queen recently. I’ve seen online that a lot of people divide up the community pots right away. I’m not sure if I should divide these now or if I should wait until next spring which will be 6 months from now. They are not exactly huge.

I live in warm Texas and the cattleya in my home are still growing roots and new sheaths. I guess they don’t anticipate the cold coming?

I am concerned with how close together these are. Also the medium may not work in my climate. If they keep growing at this rate, by spring next year, they will be way too hard to separate.

I'm thinking that if you have room you might as well go ahead and separate them into smaller groups maybe of 2 or 3 plants in smaller pots. They look very nice.

I'd divide now, instead of anticipating the tangle of roots you'll face in the spring.

Thanks for the advice. Got this from H&R and it’s my first compot. I’m glad you all gave me the ok to divide it because I’ve been itching to get my hands in there. I’ll post pictures later.

I separated the compot last night. It came out to about 40 seedlings. I managed to fit them all into this 25 pot tray. I stuck a few left along with some that didn’t look like they were gonna live into the pot they arrived in. I have other cattleya in only sphag so I don’t have an issue using moss only.
