Repotting while in bloom. Risk vs reward?
Default Repotting while in bloom. Risk vs reward?

I have a phalenopsis that I have finally nursed back to health after 2 years when I went away for a couple of weeks and my pet sitter forgot to water it.

It is finally in bloom again and has been for about two months. Today I noticed there is a spot on one of the root that is turning brown/black. I am unable to tell if the root is rotting/molding or just dying off.

I really want to unpot it and remove the decaying root to prevent mold or bacterial spread but I would be doing so at the risk of the flowers dropping. If I am careful, how likely is it that the flowers will drop? How long would it take for my plant to restem and rebloom? How do I prevent the roots against the side of the pot from getting mushy in the future since the water gets trapped there and keeps the roots more wet than ones not touching the side?

I spent so long getting this orchid to reroot and rebloom that I do not want to have to start all over or risk it molding.

Thank you for the advice on the best step!
