I just got my Masd from Ecuagenera today ... It came bare rooted in a baggy with spag. Looks pre good condition and healthy. The spag was almost dry so I did put some water in the baggy. Planning on leaving it til the weekend before I repot it. I like your setup Sade... I keep my house tem at 72 and all my ceiling fans on all the time. So I dunno what setup to go for... If it wants bright bright light, I'll have to put it in my office but it gets kinda hot there... Like 75-80 depending if we are gaming lol . And hidity is about 60 there.... Ooooor I can put her in my bathroom where all my orchids are loving , it's bright but not crazy bright (NE facing with a huge frosted picture window.) But the humidity is in 70-90s with both of us showering and keeping our door close 2x a day....

Need suggestions .. clay pot w/spag in office or bark and 25% spag in a plastic or still in clay pot in my bathroom 🤔🤔🤔.. suggestions?

Masd. veitchiana is a relatively cool-growing species. It is native to the area of Machu Picchu and Cuzco in Peru. High elevation, 2200-3900 m. So your challenge is going to be to keep it cool (and humid) enough - it should handle temperatures fairly close to freezing (certainly 40 deg F/4 deg C, probably lower) . The Baker culture sheet indicates that it can get pretty warm in summer, days of 90 deg F/32 deg C or higher could be OK, but would cool off at night. So your challenge isn't warmth - the species will tolerate some but doesn't need it. The problem is giving it the cool nights. It would be happy in front of an evaporative cooler I think. (Cool and humid) It can tolerate fairly high light but doesn't need it.

Ok cool ... I can keep her downstairs and take her out at night like my Thanksgiving cactus 😅 and bring her back in before I leave for work. Temps are are 55-70 at nights. Humidity outside is higher outside anyways. I'm just selfish by wanting them inside so I can hover over them everyday. I literally come home after work. Do my rounds, check leaves , mist a few houseplants, lift my orchid pots, admire and move to next area where I have more plants 🤣🤣 .. then after I say I'm going to bed, I go into my bathroom and hover over the ones there and root check, water check, leaves check, update my plant app THEEEN go to bed ...

Plants usually don't like to be moved around. As long as night temps stay above 40 deg F. I'd suggest leaving it outside. As winter closes in, you'll be needing to bring it in at some point. But it will benefit from the coolness and night humidity for as long as the weather holds.

Oh, one other thing... it needs good water. If your total dissolved solids is below 50 ppm or so then tap water would be OK. Any higher, and you'll be wanting to look for RO or DI water. (My success rate for Masdies went 'way up once I got an RO unit, but my tap water is pretty hard, 200-400 PPM)

Remember, Masd. veitchiana is one of the tall, big-flowered ones... spikes can easily be 18 -24 inches (45-60 cm) tall on a plant that can have 12 inch (30 cm) leaves or more. This one isn't a mini...

My plant is enormous, actually, naturally divided since it was overgrowing the pot one peace dropped. Still, it is probably (besides the big Catts) the bigger plants in my species collection. Now is adapted and has new growth and looks happy, but in August it was a challenge to keep her happy, I end up with it in my room and the AC on all the time for the veitchiana and the draculas. Now, is far away from a south-facing window so the light is low, temps at night around 18C and during the day 21C, but it will be in an average 18 to 14 in the next few months since that part of the house is cold and humid.

What they don't want for sure is the same as other Masdie and Draculas: "do not want to be disturb" ... I don't move it around not even for watering, since the water drop in the lecca directly, and people are not walking by..they need a quiet environment.

It is definitely a beautiful but fussy plant!

Update

This is the warmer summer ever in Mallorca. This is the second month with an average of 40°, and guess who is dying 😓..I've done everything but is not worth it to have an AC on for just 2-3 plants. My other Masdies are in tanks and I control or manage the heat easily.

It has a bacteria that I have not been able to fight and that goes on with leaves burns from the heat.

These are sequences of 2-week stage

If it is any consolation, Andy's Orchids lost all of this species in a heat wave about 2 years ago - the nursery is near the coast and "never" gets terribly hot... well, there are exceptions, and even the best commercial growers can lose sensitive plants no matter what they do. Sorry for yours! It's a beautiful species. But the plant actually looks like it may survive... I would put water so that it comes up into the container - for the short time, root rot is less of a danger than "root toast".
