I grow my two in sphag as well and they seem to like it. I grow mine in more light than they likely recommend too, but I think it works. Another member of our society had every single one of his in bloom (at least 6) under very high light. He said it seems to make them bloom better. His looked lovely.

I've seen Ray recommending something like that. have't done that but I do have a clay dish under the pot and that is full of clay pellets. I think it helps keep it cool, but if I can find some larger clay pots to use like you do then I plan to do that.
