OMGosh!! Wow, what a gorgeous beauty. I have been too chicken to try these species (subsection Coccineae) due to their need to be in really cool conditions. But now I'm thinking you inspired me that I should give it a gamble.

I took a gamble buying this one, then another gamble buying a second before I even knew if this one was going to be successful... I seem to have a tendency to do that even though I set out thinking I'll just get one to try :bushing:

I'm soooo pleased with this success... not just the flower but a plant that is bigger than when I bought it.

Thanks everyone.

I have no idea how long these flowers last. It's been open just over a week now but I don't know what to expect. The second spike is still growing well

Your flower is spectacular and so is your photo. I love the vibrant colors. Can't grow masdies where I live. Perhaps I should move to a colder climate. Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing.

Thanks Jenn and Junebug... I go out and stand gazing at it several times a day, I just love it

I decided not to bring it inside to enjoy the flower as that would probably shock it and cause it to drop quicker... there is quite a temp difference between the greenhouse and the house.

I love love love the color!! Saw your pics on FB, but never got around to looking at your thread here. I might try to get one of these, if you can grow it in the UK, I'm sure I can manage to grow it in NL if I stay there. But if I move back to FR it might be too hot for it.

Have you taken some landscape shots of it? It would make great calendar material for next year!
