schroderiana (species)

This is the correct photo of schroderiana. I had never seen this one before and I think it is a bit unusual. The plant arrived with many open flowers which were exposed to the cold on the trip home, they all wilted. Within a few days there were many nice blooms again.

It is lovely!

This site is being a very bad influence on me. I am thinking of giving Masdies a try when I get back to the States.

Howard,

Unfortunately, my son doesn't sell Masds. I ordered this, and 4 more from Golden Gate Orchids. I was very pleased with his service, and the quality of the plants. They were advertised as 6 leaves or more. Not one of them even came close to that, the smallest one was about 10 or 12 but the rest were more like 20 or 25. I was surprised when they were all in bloom.

I ordered
Angel Frost (Peach Fuss X Copper Angel)
Cinnamon Twist (ayabcana X goliath)
Gocong Vn (Stella X maculata)
Morning Glory (chaparensie X Marguerite)
schroderiana -species

I especially like the Cinnamon Twist, which lost it bloom shortley after I got it, but it already has a new bud started on each of 2 inflorescence, and the Gocong Vn which is very dark and velvet like and has many blooms.

Marilyn, are Masdies hard to grow... do they need lots of humidity, warm temps... ??? Don't most of this genus have relatively small flowers... and do they last or is the show over in a week???? They are another group I have been thinking of getting into....

Hi Marylin, can't wait to see your Cinnamon Twist in bloom.

BikerDoc, yes on the high humidity and moderate lights, no on the warm temps. Cool to cold for these please. From my limited experience, I have seen that the flowers last for over a week, possibly more for lots of species. The flowers for Masdevallia are not usually small, they are large enough to be appreciated, and many species have quite large flowers.
