Default Masdevallia caesia

Got this direct from Bruce Rogers in san francisco. What a great guy and the greenhouses were out of this world. Nice plant size and mounted in a hapu pot. Did notice that the blooms do smell like dog poo!!! But you really have to stick your nose in it to notice.

This is one of the most difficult Masdevallias to grow - congratulations.

Stunning plant! I'm with Tindo, can you take a close up of the flowers?

Can I ask what makes this more difficult than other Masd Ron? Is it just the cool growing conditions?

I think the main concern here is that it likes high hunidity, 90 or better. But in the orchidarium thats not a factor for me. It is cool to intermediate, but again temps are not a factor for me either. Masdies and dracs grow like weeds for me. I use RO water and keep it moist, never letting it dry out. We shall see how it does over the course of the next few months, but i really dont forsee any problems. That being said it will probably no defoliate ! LOL

I think that's the main thing. It is just not tolerant at all of warm temperatures. It just seems a finicky plant to me. I've never grown it well and it will sit and sulk and do nothing for long periods, though it does not die.

this one is Golden Gate x Conservatory. Is doing very well and is now producing both growth and spikes. This particular clone is more on the yellow side. Seems to be a very vigorous plant.
