What did Bolero buy today?

I bought 12 plants today. Drove 90 minutes each way so it was a big morning for me! lol.

Anyway there are 7 masdevallia's and 5 paphs (seedlings).

Some of the attached pics have some of the plants flowered. I can list all the names if you're interested.

Which Paphs did you get? Any warmth tolerant Masdies, or are those all cool growers?

They should be interesting to see in the next year or three!!!!

Not sure if any of the Massies are warm tolerate, fingers crossed that they are.

Let's see...most of the beautiful vibrant colored Masdies are usually for cooler temps than I can supply. Decided to do a little research and here's what I found:

I found info on a plant with Masdevallia John Leathers as a parent and it is a cool grower too

Wow, thanks for the research effort.

That is great!!! I think the plants will be fine and I figured most of them would be cooler growing. I will have to manage though.

Looking forward to the challenge of flowering them again next year.

P.S. I like the website on the culture of these plants. I agree that the cooler you grow them the sturdier they will be even most of the warmth tolerant ones would be better I would think. For 9 months of the year the climate here is just about ideal.

Sorry Susanne....I love them myself but unfortunately we can't grow them very well. I think probably the only way we could is in a vivarium with fans and cooling units. There are a few warm varieties..I have a Masd infracta but it doesn't have the rich reds or oranges

Nice haul! I love those Madevallia, they look great!

We can grow high elevation Pleurothallids (especially Masdevallia) here in FL... what we need is very shady conditions, plenty of available moisture, and air circulation...

For inspiration to grow higher elvation, cool growing species, I am now growing 2 plants of Dracula vampira outside... they will flower pretty soon. Also, I have Masdevallia veitchiana growing outside, and will bloom tommorow morning...

The plants are in about 90F+ degrees, and are recieving very little sun. They are doing better than my Dracula sodiroi project a while back. Actually, I think I see better progress with my Dracula and Masdevallia in the heat than growing in coolness...
