Hello,
I am seeking recommendations for true miniature orchids for my terrarium. This enclosure also houses high humidity begonias. It is 12x12x18, and has a single led grow light strip along the top.

The terrarium runs 70-85% humidity in the daytime, can run upto 90%+ in night. Temperature is between 70 and 80 degrees F. There is not much fluctuation between daytime and night time temps, since this could shock the begonias. Future plan is to have a separate enclosure for the two so I can make everybody happy in there.

Can anyone recommend any mounted orchids, for the current conditions?
I currently have haraella retrocalla, dendrobium unicum and trichocentrum tigrinum.

Thanks
Natalie

Lepanthes telipogoniflora is a super neat one in my opinion . tiny tiny and easy to grow and bloom in warm humid enclosures. Also check out lepanthes tsubotae if you like lepanthes. Some people don't care for them but I think they're just delightful! They are sometimes a bit harder to find but I think Ecuagenera USA and Tarzane group usually have them.

May I also suggest the strange Masdevallia erinacea for an easy and warm tolerant Masdevallia

If you want to get bold you might try some from the leafless chiloschista genus which are oh soooo cool. They would enjoy being mounted with no moss. Louisiana Orchid Connection seem to always have some in stock.

One that I enjoy is Schoenorchis fragrans. Great mini for mounts.

I also enjoy small Jewel orchids. They do well for me potted.

I grow these in terrariums with similar humidity & temperature conditions (as the ones you had mentioned).

Oh goodness, yes. The more alien looking the better. Love the Masdevallia you suggested. I am a fan of lepathes, but the culture always suggests them to be cool growing. Glad to see there are a couple that are more warm tolerant.

I had no idea leafless orchid existed. Wow! Thanks!

I adore these! I can't seem to find them. As for the jewel orchids, they are so pretty. I need more terrarium floor space - too many begonias :P

In reference to the first picture (jewels)? Not a Ludisia... an Anoectochhilus hybrid... slow growing, does not creep much, has remained on the smaller size scale.

There are warm-growing Lepanthes, and other miniature pleurothallids. I suggest you go to the Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia and browse Lepanthes, Pleurothallis, Octomeria and related genera.

In the Cattleya alliace there is a nice miniature, Nageliella, that might do well for you.

There are also miniature Bulbophyllums.

For species, go to Andy's search and plug in the variables. Then do some comparison shopping (with other vendors). I and many others like Andy's and recommend him regardless but his selector tool comes in handy.

Sorry... came upon your original post while scrolling through 'new posts' (did not realize this was posted under the Pleurothallis section). Strongly agree with the above posters and their suggestions for your growing conditions. Some of the miniature Barbosellas and Scaphosepalums should also do well within your temperature/humidity ranges.
