Funny you should ask! I was going to write to them later tonight to ask what a matted print was. I figured it must be a commonly used term in the US.

In most displays, it means a print that has a photo mat like you would use in a frame, but no frame or glass. It's a common way of displaying artwork in contests, exhibitions, etc. |

Matted Prints
Thank you, for coming to the rescue, Ross.
You won't believe that photography has been my main hobby for the last 38 years 
Over here in England, matte refers to an unglazed surface (as opposed to glossy). So a matted print is one which started life as a glossy print, but matted down - you go over the surface with a very fine sandpaper 
Googling it up, I note that some add a cut-out 'frame' of the same material. Would this common practice in US exhibitions?

"Matte" means the same thing here...a non-shiny photo finish, although I had never heard of sanding the photo. That's interesting

Many thanks for your help and kind words.
My reference to sanding a photo to make a matte finish was very much tongue in cheek, although it can be done.
Incidentally, we can publicise Orchid Board at the WOC if we could cobble up some cards or leaflets to give away. Any thoughts on that? I can print them up on my colour laser printer if you have an official design.
