What got me started in Photography... - Orchid Board

I started a butterfly garden and then wanted to photograph them, which led me to my camera and lens, which indirectly led me to orchid collecting.
My husband still wants to know why I can't just take photos of them, instead of buying them and bringing them home with me...
These butterfly photos were all taken this year. I usually put together a calendar for my family members of butterflies or flowers.
Just thought you might like a little peek into what led me here

I would love to be able to take photos of that quality, what type of camera do you use, all I have is a 3.2 pixel Olympus and every time I try to get a close up it turns out blury.

I have a canon 30d and a 100macro lens for close ups.
I started out using my daughters kodak that was 3.2 and I know what you mean. It took good all around photos, but didn't like to get close up or take moving shots.

Laura,
I started a butterfly garden too....and watched all of the butterflies fly over it, passing up the plants that the butterflies are supposed to be attracted to...

So not sure what quite is going on....I am thinking of adding some host plants such as milkweed, maybe that will help. I think the humming birds like the garden more

Hey Becca,
The host plant will make a world of difference. I have tons of milkweed and they manage to eat it all down to nothing in no time. Which butterfly plants did you use ?
The one that mine are most attracted to is an ornamental spinach plant, that I didn't even know butterflies liked. It is a crazy growing thing. I also have pentas and Porterweed that they really like also, along with a slew of other plants including herbs.

Hi Laura! I will plant some milkweed next spring! To name a few of the plants, I have a butterfly bush, lots of Yarrow, Delphiniums, Purple Dome Aster, and Coneflowers just to name a few....can think of what else I have planted since there is so much stuff! I will give it another try again next year....it will be it's third year of growing!
