I used to grow bananas in Oklahoma, however they tended to flower in the fall, so although I did to get to see it flower, I never actually grew any bananas, because it gets too cold before the bananas had a chance to mature.

The plants would die back to the ground in the winter, and then regrow from the roots in the spring.

Sade - why do you think they won't develop and be edible?

It's so exciting when they fruit, isn't it?! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. (I gave mine extra water and feed while the fruit was developing.)

Well I had a surprise today! I was watering my jungle corner (hibiscus, banana, drago, monstera, honeysuckle) which, as usual, is slightly overgrown, when I heard a dull thump. Turned off the hose and forced my way in and to my surprise found a stalk of bananas on the ground between the plant and the wall! Didn't even know it was fruiting - it was very well hidden!

my jungle:

elsewhere in the garden the red banana plants have eventually started growing well - they took a long time to get going.
