Default Phal Schilleriana in bloom

You guys may have seen me post this on a different forum but here it is again anyway. My first orchid ever to spike on me is finally in bloom. It's a first time bloomer and only has 1 flower on the spike. It's fairly pink compared other pictures I've seen, which others have confirmed as well. Maybe it'll change as the flower matures?
Thanks for looking. =)

Wow, it does seem darker than I would expect - very nice though. Great spotting and coloration in and round the lip.

Nice taste in computers BTW.

Justin - you just made it on top of the list. Well actually you're the only one on the list. Lol. It might just take a while. This guy is really small. But i'll let you know if it does.

Dave - Yeah it is fairly pink compared to pictures of other schillerianas ive seen. Maybe it'll get more white as the flower mature?

Sue -

Default Maybe you won the lottery

That clear pink color seems to be unique. Maybe you are sitting on a million bucks worth of breeding material! Here is a site that shows some of the normal variation: http://www.phals.net/schilleriana/index_e.html

What did you do to get that beautiful close up picture? Did you do that with the camera, or with photoshop, or both? That's a great shot.

Justin

PS: You definitely deserve a and even a for such great growing. How long have you had it?

Gorgeous Phal. congrats on your first bloom. Your ahead of me, I look daily and its like a watched pot that never boils. Your photo skills makes me jealous. I can't tell you how many chid pics I take to get what I got, and using 3 camera's...dang would hate to bring out the 35mm.

Justin - I used both. I just took a 1600 pixel picture cropped it and shrunk it down to 700 px. Maybe it'll turn white as the flower matures?? Also the lateral sepals and petals on mine don't angle back like the ones in the picture. Maybe I just have a special one. After seeing this bloom it made me want to get the schilleriana var. purpurea. But I have no room.

I got this particular schilleriana in early april/late march of this year

cheyrl - No camera skills here. I just took a whole mess of pictures and picked out the best out of the 30 some odd pictures I took. I took the pictures at night and all the picture that I used flash in made the flower to white and did it no justice. The first and second the 3rd and 4th I covered the flash half way with my finger.

I've picked up a few hints on taking orchid pictures during my perusal of the internet. There are a couple of guys out there that take the most stunning photos I've ever seen. Their first point of instruction: only click the shutter halfway, the camera will re-focus, then finish taking the shot. Another item: they've mentioned having a straight horizontal line at bloom level. It has something to do with a cameras focus pinpointing the horizon.
I've done the half-click thing and it seems to work. I haven't tried the horizontal line but if their hints help in acquiring the exquisite photos I've seen, it would be worth a try.
