Cool phal amabilis - new roots from existing

I keep trying to comply with putting the correct titles on my threads but for whatever reason, it always seem so hard to do!

What I wanted to ask is if anyone has ever seen a new root grow perpendicular to the root is has grown from? I initially transplanted the phal, from moss to a mix and the plant just HATED it (things wilting/turning yellow and so on). I decided to change back to the moss and well there were new roots and leaves coming so fast you could almost see the growth. One the the new things growing were at least 3 roots shooting straight up from existing roots on the surface of the moss. One of the other really spiffy things to happen is a few days ago, I noticed a spike

I am still struggling with a few other phals that should be "spiking". I am being optimistic.

regards, m

First Mary, CONGRATS!! I know how much you wanted to see a spike from 1 of your phals - Good growing!

To the roots - Yes that pretty much like that for any orchid, as far as I know, my catts do this alot, oncids, vandas, etc ...

I've got a few spikes on some of my phals and others just growing roots and leaves, I've seen spikes set well into dec. Keep the faith!
