Default Dropping buds?

Hello, I ordered a phal that was in bud, and since it's been in the house for the past few weeks, two of its smallest buds have turned red and shriveled up. The larger one looks to be doing the same thing. what is causing this? It's by an eastern facing window, and it is watered as soon as the bark dries out.

thanks

-tyler

Hi, Tyler. Losing a few buds is fairly common when a phal is shipped in spike. If your phal is in a good position, it should form new buds that stay on and develop.

Be sure you aren't letting it get too dry-- yeah, goldilocking on watering is a hard call sometimes.

Hi Tyler. Low humidity could be a problem too. The change from nursery conditions to yours can be a shock to these guys! I agree that you might be letting it dry out too much. Keep us posted, and good luck.

Helps to have a nearby humidifer. . .the cool mist type.

Or at least put the orchid on top of some rocks in a tray. Keep a bit of water in the tray. . .but don't let your orchid sit down in the water, keep it on top of the rocks, out of the water.

Should help with the blooms next time and hopefully save some of them.

Good luck!!!
