This is Oscar, my shelter adopted German Shepherd Dog.

He's around 3 years old now, and we've had him for just over a year. He is my companion and fellow gardening buddy. He really is just the biggest goober in the world. I think he is reliving his puppyhood since we finished heartworm treatment, which kept him on the down side of activity for the first 6 to 9 months we had him.

Our.. well.. his.. favorite activity is running. I could never keep up, so I just let him speed 20m circles around me.

I call him my little hunter, because he loves to go after anything bug. Bees, flies, beetles. If it has wings and buzzes, he's hunting it. And he's really good at catching too.

We had a rocky first year with the heartworm treatment and getting over the near paralyzing fear issues after coming out of the shelter. But his confidence has improved tremendously with trips out to Home Depot garden center, the local all natural pet stores, and out to the equestrian barn I ride at, every weekend or so. I hope this year to get into some trail going (hiking, biking, camping) with him since he loves to be outside and run so much. We'll see. I had hoped to introduce him to agility, but he doesn't have the confidence for it in public just yet, although, I was getting him to leap over the horse jumps at my barns arena.

Thanks for reading through my rambling.

A little love goes a long way, and this boy needed a lot of it. We went looking for a black and tan 6 month old and came out with a black and cream 2 year old. No regrets though. It has been a very interesting journey.

He is beautiful! When it's planting time, does he help with digging the holes? Thanks for adopting!

He wasn't much of a digger last year, but I planted in containers and he was kind enough to stay out of them. Although every morning, he HAD to sniff and check on them as he walked down the porch.

I plan on putting a permanent vege garden out this year, and we'll see if he digs.

This is him hanging out as I put my seeds in order for starting under lights.

First picture he looks very interested. Second picture he's getting a little rest, thinking about all the work ahead.

From "Whatcha doing Ma?" to "Lady, you're taking to long to make a decision."
