Default Orchid & Cats

Hello everyone! I am new to the world of orchids and am so happy to have found this board. I have learned so much and am trying to absorb as much information as I can as a continue to add more orchids to my collection.

One of the great byproducts of my budding hobby is the happiness that it brings my Persian cats. They are fascinated by my orchids, and have become permanent fixtures around them. They sit and stare at them for hours. So for your enjoyment, here are some photos I was able to snap of them!

Your cats are sizing up the orchids for their next snack.

My black Persian has definitely "tasted" the leaves once or twice. Luckily they haven't chewed on anything yet, but who knows what happens during the cloak of night!

My cat munches on them. I have to always make sure he has fresh pet grass now otherwise he goes back to eating the orchids.

Very nice orchids and cats. My one cat chews the leaves of many of my orchids. In your first photo it looks like the cat is going to take a big chomp out of that orchid!

I laughed out loud at the first picture. How cute! And, I hope everyone else is mistaken about the cats eating your plants. So, I guess vigilance is the watchword.
A friend of mine has three Phals and 1 parrot. The parrot chews on her orchids and other plants too. I tell her she needs to give him some greens but I'm not sure which greens would be suitable.
I'm just glad my cats don't seem interested in my orchids which are quite accessible because they are outdoors on a table for the summer.

All types of cats are obligate carnivores and get all their nutrition from meat. However, most of them do like to munch on some grass to get fiber and settle their stomachs. Orchids are monocots like grass and cats are happy to munch on them too.

My grocery store sells little plastic pots of grass for indoor pets to eat and I'm sure pet stores do too so if you have a problem with your cats eating your orchids look for that.
