I was only joking about keeping the iguana outside. I just have seen them before (I think people get tired of them and release them which I do not agree with at all!) and attempted to catch it to turn over to a rehab type place.

That is really nice that you have an iguana that you could train so well. I never thought that was possible! Good job!

I would think that an iguana is quite capable and adaptable to being outside. They sure are abundant around here...outside.

i agree swamper. They can live outside. I just wouldn't recommend it where I live. It also depends how you keep them outside also. I have had my iguana's eye seal shut because some dog hair got in his eye and I had to wrestle him for two months straight trying to flush his eye out until it healed. I went to work with cuts on my arms and people thought I was crazy. My cousin's iguana was outside and a rat gnawed the heck out of the wire until it got in the cage and it ripped the poor iguana to shreds. I am still planning on building a huge green house when i am able to and letting my iguana roam free inside. I wish I lived in Florida again- you guys really do have an ideal climate.

A rat? Maybe we are picturing diff things here. The Iguanas Im picturing are pretty big. It would take a new york, Im talking manhattan rat to tear up one of these iguanas. from the info I was reading (until the orchid eating issue came up) these iguanas seem to have few enemies when they reach a certain size, having good teeth and a good tail they use as a whp to defend themselves. Swamper, I think we are thinking of the same iguanas. They are huge! I can't imagine a rat hurting one, but i guess you never know....
