Goldfish
I got a 10 gallon aquarium at a flea market. I've had it running for 4 days now and it's just fine. I thought I could put the fancy goldfish in the tank and they would be just fine. So I went to the store to get the supplies for the tank, and they said I need a 29 gallon tank for 2 goldfish. I told a friend of mine and he said that was silly. Now, he might be thinking of the "true" goldfish, the ones that don't get that big. What do you think? I would prefer to get the 29 gallon tank, but if the 10 gallon works just fine, it will save me a lot of money.

Puddin,
I agree, I've been a hobbyist for about 26 years now and I can tell you these guys can get to a larger size then you realize. Goldfish and NOT for small tanks.
Go for the larger tank for sure

That is what I thought. I've been reading a book on goldfish and it made sense. I was dead shocked though when the assistent told me. I looked at the other fish they had, and after the shock, I liked the guppies really well. They had purple, yellow, and other ones. So, guppies it is! At Christmas I will get the 29 gallon tank.

If goldfish are what you want thats what I would get. Most fish grow to the size of there environment then again if they become to large maybe you can trade them with a pet store. I use to have a saltwater tank and use to buy, sell and trade with my local fish store/pet store. If this is your first tank I have a couple of suggestions. 1 If you decide to buy live plants make sure they are snail fee, they will over run a tank quickly.(one male snail is beneficial for keeping algae growth under control) 2. Water will evaporate and you can add chlorine free water but you need to do a 20% water change every 2 months( this remove accumulated waste). 3. they sell drops to remove chlorine but you can remove the chlorine by letting it sit for 24 hrs. before you add it to the tank. 4. you will be buying a breeding tank when the guppies have baby's (you will need to keep them separate from adult fish) or they will disappear . I hope this helps and good luck Oh don't forget pictures when you get setup . Now I am going to soak my fingers

On the baby guppies, what do I put them in? Will a fish bowel do? I have no idea. I'm a newbie in this area.

they sell a plastic tank that hangs inside your tank. If I remember correctly you buy guppies by the pair so there will be baby's.

How many can be in a 10 gallon tank and be comfortible? And here is a picture of the tank. I have a bubble wand behind the sunken ship. I will post more pictures when I get the fish.
I got the tank, gravel, and filter for only $30. I had to get other supplies, though. Cost a lot more than I thought it would.

Yea everything starts off cheap but it alway get's more expensive down the road. How about a lighted hood? the type of bulbs are important if you get live plants!
I see the hood now!
Sorry 10 maybe more guppies but you probably what other type of fish too! Catfish, Alge eaters, angel fish ect.

they are incandescent but one should be a plant bulb or black light bulb will bring out the color of the fish ask your pet shop guy/girl what does what. I edited my last post you may want to reread it
If you got all that for 30 bucks I'd say you did a great job
