Thanks for the compliments, I think Miki is very cute too! I love dachshunds.
My family have had mini dachshunds for over 20yrs. Miki is my second dachshund.
So you are thinking about getting a doxie, my question to you is "are you a good dog trainer?".
Dachshund are more difficult to train in comparison to Golden Retrievers, this is because they are independent thinkers! Pleasing you is not their main priority. The secret to the training Hounds is 'food reward'! Miki has been trained to pee on command!
Basically your relationship with your dog will depend on what you put in to it.
Dachshunds love their owners, they are a one person dog. Having said that Miki is very good with children and a super watch dog.
Barking can be an issue with any dog, my husband thinks that Miki barks too much. Miki is not too friendly with other dogs (barking) because he has been kept in isolation whilst he was sick. Miki cannot be immunised because he has GME. Miki's brother Donut on the other hand is super friendly with everyone and everydog!
Most dachshunds love to cuddle up and hide under blankies, they are generally 'lower' maintaince dogs.
Most dogs can be trained to stay at home whilst their human owners are at work. It is what you do with the dogs after work... you've got to give them exercise and exercise, otherwise they can have behaviour problems. Remember dachshunds were breed as hunting dogs.
My main concern with this breed is 'health', as you can see from this thread. You need to find a responsible breeder, who will only breed healthy dogs with no
back problems. Forget about dachshunds if you have stairs in your house, unless you will put in ramps.
That is my 2 cents worth!
As you can see I can talk about dogs and orchids forever!
BTW, I didn't know that is an Ikea teddy. My son came home with it from pre- school, it was a visiting teddy. Teddy got to meet Miki and played in the garden... 'show and tell' item.
