Default More Short Legged Dogs

Here are my two hounds from hell. The shy one on the right is Ushi 8yrs old. We adopted her from my father in law when he had to go into assisted living. The smart aleck on the right is Tucker 6yrs old. They are both miniature Dachshunds and weigh anywhere between 12 & 15 lbs depending level of activity.

Tucker ruptured a disc in his back about 1 1/2 yrs ago and was paralyzed within hours. We opted for major surgery to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord, and many many many months later he slowly began to walk again. He still has some paralysis and permanent nerve damage, but he walks with joy even if it looks a little odd. He really just wishes he could still scratch his ears when he needs to.

Oh wow Terri! I didn't know you had dachshunds!
They are so sweet! I love dachshunds!
Are your dogs food lovers?
My dog (Miki) would eat anything and everything! Miki has had his stomach pumped out twice in the last 2 years! Miki's other favourite activities are: sleeping and sun baking!

We used to have 4 doxies in our family, all minis. Our senoir dog (15yrs old) got ran over by my brother in-law in Feb , so there are 3 left (2 reds and one b/tan)!

Buds you just described Tucker to a tee! LOL He will eat anything that he thinks might be edible. He once ate a black widow spider and he had seizures off and on for about 24 hrs as a result. Very scary. He's definately a chow hound. His other favorite activity is laying in the sun on our back patio. He'll lay out there even in 100 degree heat! He really hates winter. We get snow at least once or twice a season. Getting him to go out and do his business is like pulling teeth. Ushi is far more laid back about most things. She's not a big eater, and is a little more active than Tucker so doesn't tend to gain weight. I really have to watch Tucker's food intake because the extra weight is not good for his compromised back.

Buds Miki is sooo cute! I love that poor pitiful me look in picture number 1. I get that look from Ushi a lot. How do you keep Miki so trim? I always feel like I'm starving my lot. Sorry to hear about Sr. dog being run over. As low to the ground as they are I'm sure they are hard to see in a car.

Dave, yep it was a VERY big vet bill! I was really kind of surprised. I expected my husband to opt for the needle especially given how much the surgery cost. But Tucker was his first true pet. He had dogs before but they were working dogs and not part of the family or friends. He just couldn't bear the thought of not giving the little guy a chance. If it had been my decision alone it would have be a no brainer!
