Many folks would find it hard to believe how attached you can get to a reptile. But I hear ya. I lost Peanut, my leopard gecko, last spring. She was eggbound and as a result quit eating. A vet removed the eggs but it was simply too late ... she had depleted all her fat reserves and died shortly after. I miss her still. Leos have a lot of personality -- very inquisitive.

As you noted it often is difficult to tell when a herp is ailing. Very often by the time you realize it's sick it's too late.

You have my condolences ma'am. If you've never been to one, you might want to check out a herp show in your area when you next decided to get a snake. Prices and selection are generally far superior to what you will find in pet stores.

Thanks everyone. Sorry it has taken so long to get on here, just haven't really been on much lately.

lycaonpictus, yes, I know she was a female. They sexed her before I took her home. There is a shop here that specializes in reptiles. They are all very knowledgeable and can pretty much answer any and all questions. They deal only in reptiles. I would never get a reptile, or any animal for that matter, at a place like PetSmart. They always have plenty of snakes to choose from, but none of them are what we are looking for. She was just a "juvenile" when we got her in 2004, but she should have lived much longer than that. I think they get all of their reptiles through someone that breeds them. I know they are all captive bred and not wild caught.

Sorry, I rambled a little. Thanks again. Keep your fingers crossed that we can find a friend for Lilly.
