Poison Arrow Frogs & Orchids
I had some visitors to the orchids this morning...
These little guys are running all over the place and I can often hear them calling in the morning.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I live in Hawaii, Manoa to be exact. The frogs were introduced here in 1932 as a means to control the mosquito population, which sadly to say, didn't really work. This is the only natural (albeit introduced) population of arrow frogs outside their native habitat that I know of. I enjoy watching these little guys hop around and control the ants that are in the area.  |

Beautiful frogs and a nice pairing.
Hopefully they, in general, haven't done much damage to Hawaii's notoriously fragile ecosystem.

Out of all the introduced species to make it to the islands (Coqui frogs, Mongoose, Toads, etc.), these little guys are the least intrusive and actually don't damage the ecosystem in any way or compete with native species.

They're gorgeous...I have a lot frogs here too but not like those!

That's good news then.
Are the green-and-black frogs the only kind there, or are there others?
Also, as poison dart frogs get their toxin from their diet, are these ones harmless or still retain some kick to them? |
