Default My "new" cat

Not new to me, but you haven't seen him before.

So, during the time I was away from this forum, I unfortunately lost both of my previous cats that I wrote about here: My two cats :)

I had to put them to sleep within six months of each other in 2019 due to cancer.

While Prillan was still alive, she started to show what I thought were signs of stress from having lost her brother (in hindsight it was more likely the cancer that started to affect her) and decided to adopt a cat from a local shelter.

She passed, but he stayed. He's a shy little guy but gets a bit braver as long as I'm with him and talking to him. I was prepared to not get the same bond with him as he was approximately three years old when I got him, but to my surprise, we did and I'm so happy for it.

He's just an ordinary cat, but he's very special to me. A bit less intensive and high energy than Prillan and Pelle was, and he doesn't like sharing his home with other cats.

Here's Jon:

Such a wonderful looking cat. Very confident looking too. Also love the characteristic black coloured spot on the front!

First, let me say how sorry I am to hear that you lost Prillan and Pelle so close together. I feel for you, having lost my two dogs very close in time a year or so ago.

Jon is a very handsome guy! He has a wonderfully expressive face and looks like an intelligent, curious cat. I'm sure he is a fine companion, and I'm glad the two of you found each other.

He's easy to take pictures of, that's for sure.

He actually has very low self confidence, he's the only cat I've had that never walks around with his tail in the air, unless I talk to him.

Basically, he's insecure but he trusts me and he's very forward at home where he feels safe. When I went to meet him for the first time (he was in a foster home) he took one look and me and hid in the kitchen.

It's difficult when it happens and I'm so glad I had Jon to keep me distracted. I'm sorry about your dogs.

You nailed his personality to a T. While he's insecure, he's also very curious and intelligent. He learns very quickly, especially when it's not dangerous anymore and safe to move again (like when I'm vacuum cleaning). He might go hide when someone visits, but if I talk to him he'll come and say Hi and play with the person if they want to.

There is nothing common about Tuxedo cats! I have two. Very nice companion you have. Thanks for sharing.

Handsome indeed. We love them and lose them. But it's all the good stuff in between that matters. As adopters, we have no(or little)knowledge of their background. So kudos to us and them for taking on challenging and loving relationships that make for great memories. Btw, your foto displays each hair so well that I can almost feel the softness. Enjoy you 2!

Unfortunately, Tuxedo cats, especially shy ones, tend to get overlooked a lot here in Sweden since they are so common and it makes me so sad. There are definitely cats that I love the look of, but when I was looking for one to adopt, I only cared about the personality and Jon sounded perfect for me. It turned out he was.

He is incredibly soft to pat. The fur is short but thick and so nice to stuff your face in (he lets me do that, but will wash himself thoroughly afterwards). I took the photo with my mobile. It seems good at taking pictures at a shorter distance, but not at a distance.

He looks quite regal, and I love the way he's holding his paws.

I'm going to tell him that. He's going to be so proud of himself.

I love his paws. He's a small cat, especially for a tom, but his paws are big and he tends to "squeeze" them whenever I come and pat him while he's lying somewhere. It's like a subtle version of kitty-biscuits (he does that too) and I love it so much.
