Update on yellow cattleya leaves
Default Update on yellow cattleya leaves

This seems to be progressing really fast and even going down the pseudobulb... I'm getting pretty worried about it. Any suggestions now is it something to worry about? I was going to take the whole pseudobulb today but I wanted to check again with others before I do something...I hope it hasn't progressed too far.

I would take the entire pseudobulb and cut past the bad part into healthy green tissue. Then apply cinnamon to the cut. Use a sterile blade.

Is that plant potted directly into the ceramic pot? It doesn't look like there is much air getting to the roots. How is drainage? How and when do you water it?

Yeah I realized I potted it in the wrong type of pot there is no drainage so I water more on the sparing side than over water...I actually only mist the exposed roots every morning. I was going to repot it but it's got 2 new p.bulbs with spikes forming and I've heard not to repot while flowering. Thanks for the help

I would be more concerned about the entire plant than the new spikes. The roots also need air which they won't be getting in that pot. In nature they grow attached to trees with roots completely exposed to breezes and rains that start and stop, then the roots are dried quickly in the breeze.

The best time to repot is when new root growth is happening on the new pseudobulbs. But if roots are in danger of rotting, than I would repot at any time. The way it's potted may have contributed to the growth turning yellow and what looks like possible rot in the dark coloration on the pseudobulb.

I agree with Silken. I would rather risk loosing a few blooms than loosing the whole plant.

Thumbs up

Yep. I made the decision as I was cutting the p.bulb off to just go ahead and do what needed to be done...I said to myself I'd rather take the risk of losing the flowers than risk the whole plant dying...so here it is its in a basket with bark mix an a little moss
Thanks for your help!

Did you buy it in bloom, or know what they look like? There are a few with the word Volcano in them so a picture of the bloom might help to get the rest of it. Or if you can check with the vendor.
