Did he mention in the auction that it had this damage and you were buying it 'as is'? ... I guess when buying online from any seller, it's best to ask if there is any damage to the plant. A photo only shows you so much and they can always give you it's best angle. It is to our disadvantage when we are not able to inspect the plant in person.
If he were a 'reputable' seller and you showed dissatisfaction, I would hope he would compensate you in someway. Not only is it good business, it's the right thing to do.

Default Thanks again

Hi again guys and thanks for the input.
The vendor was particularly, well, defensive; but he did say he'd give a full refund and cover costs of return mail if I wanted to go down that path.
I said I was happy with the plant as is - as stated before, it is particularly healthy except for the mottling.
A little mottling doesn't bother me - a virus certainly would (I accept that this maybe lowering standards to some of the viewers, but I am happy this early in the game to carry on with the plant).
I guess this time has taught me to ask queations; I have ordered about 35 orchids through ebay, and this is the first to have any blemishes.
Again thanks fro the concern/interest.
My other catt has a flower spike! Yippee!

Thumbs up Thumbs Up!

Despite his defensiveness, he was good by his word and would have compensated you. I commend him for that!
Many of us have taken in plants that weren't in the greatest shape. One of the greatest pleasures is tending to a sickly or damaged plant only to see it grow and bloom for you..
You have not lowered your standards .. you have heightened them.
It's only the odds that there will be a 'not so perfect' plant that one comes our way either by purchase or possibly by one's ignorance of care. ( guilty! )

Good Growth and Health to your Orchid and show us it's progress!
