Question Pesticide for Grasshopper or Crickets

I'm not sure if it is a grasshopper or a cricket (I'll take a photo and post later), but after a rain or misting the shadehouse I keep finding these bright green 'hoppers on my orchids.

They jump really HIGH and vary in size from 1/2" to a little over 1".

They tend to like the Catts and the Onc Alliance orchids...the ones with fleshy leaves and they EAT the spikes and the leaves.

Here is my question...what pesticide can I use on the chids to deter them? OR if I can't do that what pesticide can I spray around the shadehouse to keep them out?

I can usually catch them at night after I turn the mister on for a few minutes. They come out and pick a chid to chew on for the evening...then I catch them and kill them with RAID on the sidewalk outside.

But I want to catch/kill/deter them BEFORE they sit down to dine on my chids....

Any suggestions?

I live in Memphis, TN (USA) so a pesticide readily available at Lowe's, Home Depot or WalMart would be helpful. FYI - Physan is not readily available locally, but if this is the one I should use...link for purchase would be helpful too.

Physan is not a pesticide but if you ever need it, almost every orchid vendor carries it.

Look at the big box stores at the Bayer products for roses to see if any of them list grasshoppers. I don't know if a chewing grasshopper hates the same things a Japanese beetle hates, but the bottle should tell you.

Good luck I had one last year in the g/h and it wrecked havoc on a couple of plants.

We had those in our yard. They are baby grasshoppers. I searched them out and picked them off. It's your choice to destroy them or throw them over the fence. There are some powder stuff to ward them off, but I'm not sure what works best.

Try finding Bayer Complete in the blue bottle with the hose-end attachment. It has two active ingredients, Imidacloprid: 0.15%, and B-Cyfluthrin: 0.05%. The imidacloprid is a systemic and the the cyfluthrin is the topical adulticide.

And yes, it is labeled for grasshoppers and crickets.

I was able to find the Bayer as a concentrate which was a little less expensive and more fl oz too.

I sprayed everything as well as the floor and around the border of the shade house so we'll see how it goes.

Die Grasshoppers!

I'll give you a review on it's effectiveness after 30 days...the label says it is good for 30 days.
