Default Badness...but what is it?

Found this on my Epi ilense this morning...the leaf looked fine yesterday. I trimmed the tip off, because it looked like that was as far as the badness went, but it spread to involve almost the whole leaf by the time I got home today. The brown area is limp, but all the other leaves look ok.

Any suggestions? I have no idea what's going on but the rapid spread is troubling!

Looks like rot might of got water sitting in the top, I would cut all of the dark out and put straight peroxcide in the top , Once it is done fizzing be sure to use T tissue to remove the wet... dry well then use some cinnamon in the cut area , keep dry . Hope this helps a little .. Gin

well, I didn't have peroxide, but I did have physan, so I cut the leaf as far down as I could with some small scissors (sterilized of course) and then hit it with the physan. I let it sit a few minutes, rinsed it off, and then dried it and applied a good dusting of cinnamon. This morning (10 hours postop) it looks like the picture.

Also note that I discovered a new leaf inside the dying one...hope it can develop!

Any update on this one? That looks like Erwinia and sounds like it sa well since it spread so fast. Hopefully you got it under control.

the affected leaf ended up dying completely and falling off, despite my aggressive measures. the rest of the plant just kept kicking, and seems to have been unaffected. weird.

Excellent results - it can be very sad when a growing point rots

New in my plant care arsenal is Hydrogen Peroxide (35%), it is very effective. Thank you Christina @ The Orchid Shop.
