Question Spots on Masdevallia Leaves?

Hi all! I am new here to post, although I have read on this site for quite some time and find it to be so helpful, so thank you all! I do have something to ask though - I have a Masd. Veitchiana which was doing fine for a while but I noticed some dark spots on the under side of the leaves that seem to be "puckered" if you will. The spots will eventually cause the leaf to yellow and die, and I am noticing it on some of the younger leaves. I love this orchid and hope to prevent it from dying, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have looked for mites and scale and see nothing, so I'm at a loss. Thanks so much!

I am not familiar with this Pleurothallid problem... I wish I could be of useful help to you... the only thing I can think of is that it's a bacteria... if the spots show through both sides of the leaf, then it may be fungus. I am really unsure what to suggest to help it... perhaps you would be able to post a pic of it? =)

Hi ,What Temps. are you growing it in ? according to Andy's site it is an intermediate to cool grower . I don't know where you are but if it has been hot over 80 that might be the problem ? I have a Masd. that does that if it gets to warm in the greenhouse . Gin

I thought the veitch's were warm-tolerant? Masdies are one of the few groups of orchids that I'm still too afraid to try though--I hear they have suicidal tendencies.

I will try and post pictures here in a little bit - maybe that will help. Although it is a warm-tolerant masd., I have kept it inside during the summer on a windowsill away from the other orchids I have (I had a mite problem on a few earlier this year and I wanted to make sure it wasn't affected). So, being inside, it was around 75 F each day, and was getting indirect light from the sill...i'll try and post a pic though.

Oh, yea, that does not look happy. Try to take a look at the leaf under a strong loop. Look for mites, the spots look like the damage on my Dtps.

Gosh, I was hoping I wasn't going to have to deal with this! Nothing like buying an orchid that is infested...blah!

O.K...well, wiped down the leaves and sprayed with Safer insecticidal soap, so we'll see what happens. I hope I don't loose it - anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks so much!

Be sure and repete in 3 days 3 times wash the leaves then spray .. to check wipe the under side of the leaves with a wet tissue if orange smears show thats the little #$#$.. Not heat damage , when done treating I would use a fungacide on the damage sometimes fungus will jump on the damage ... Man I hate mites Grrrrrr! Gin

Thanks! I will keep up the process. I am going to try to use a fung. as well to try and eliminate that problem as well.

*fingers crossed* I love this one, I am going to be completely bummed if something happens to it!
