Default Snail control

Today I noticed that the new growth was missing on my bulb. hamelinii. Then I found the little jackwagon munching away on new roots on the same plant... console me please

So it's hot, it's humid, I grow orchids outdoors, and snails are everywhere. Has anyone had good luck with some type of bait that can withstand rain? Anything I can use to sprinkle on my plants? Any other tricks for controlling these demons?

No kidding??! I just bought some lettuce today and that sounds like a far better use for it than actually eating it

There might be other ways. You just have to pick them up in the morning...with a bonus.

Metaldehyde.

In the USA, look for Ortho Bug-get-a brand baits. Read instructions before buying. Best not used where pets or small children could possibly eat it. But it does work if used as directed.

My cats don't get out in my courtyard very often but it does happen occasionally. I might just need to try to work around that. Have you tried just putting this stuff in something like a pie tin?

You can put a few granules of metaldehyde in each orchid pot. In wet conditons, the granules can develop a little mold. IME, a little unsightly but apparently not harmful to rhe plant.
