Discolored Phal Leaf Female
Default Discolored Phal Leaf

I was watering yesterday and I noticed something wrong with this phal's leaf. Since I don't know when it started, I cut the whole leaf off to make sure it doesn’t spread. The only problem is I don’t know what “it” is. It’s so hard to describe I can only point you to the pics for detail. All parts of the leaf were very firm and not squishy, but not dry either. Just regular leaf texture.

This plant has 3 old leaves and one newly growing leaf. The leaf I cut was the 2nd oldest. I examined the phal for stem rot cause that’s been my #1 phal killer (despite not letting water set in crevices), and I found nothing concerning. I was able to rule out sunburn and cold damage immediately. There are 50+ phals that share a plant stand with this phal and none have sun/cold or any other kind of damage like this. I’m clueless about any orchid disease bacterial, fungal, virus, etc… All I’ve dealt with is stem/crown rot. I don’t know whether to be concerned or not, but this isn’t just a cheap noid. I really love this phal. So can you guys tell me whats going on? Or what to do?

Growing conditions: 5 months my care, indoor, pest-free, leca media but not S/H, cornered between an east and south window, good roots, no leaves with same symptom, one leaf with small black pits that never spread, no shared water, no liquid on leaves.
Temps hi 85F/lo 68F. Humidity hi 55/lo 29.

It looks to me that some sort of mechanical damage left an opening for a bacterial or fungal infection. Removing the entire leaf was wise. Dust the wound on the plant which a bit of cinnamon powder to seal it off.

The fact that it is apparently liquefying internally is concerning. Did/does it have a strong odor?

I never thought to smell it, but I've got a pretty good nose and with as close as I was inspecting it, I think I should've smelled something. So I'm going to say no odor, but maybe I just caught it early... If it did smell, would that mean something worse?
