Gregg, I have several intergeneric crosses that do this on backbulbs. Even Brassias that have dropped the leaf but have a green shriveled backbulb often are brown at the top where the leaf was. It's firm, the plant is healthy, and I just supect that's what they do.

This happens quite often, is not rot related (it has never spread and is firm) and does not affect the blooming in any way.

I honestly have no clue what is going on. Maybe it would be a good idea to spray it for bacterial infection just in case? :hmm Would be a shame to lose it!

As for what the orchid is, I think the red leaves in the picture I posted may be due to high light. Here's another pic of the same one, and it's green!

I'd go as far as to say that there's a good chance that it is 'Boussole Blanche'. From what I know/ have read, there are not that many white Odontonia. This one was created by a french breeder btw. 'Boussole Blanche' means 'White Compass' in English
