Leaf spot and Brown spot (maybe?) Can any one offer confirmation/advice Female
Default Leaf spot and Brown spot (maybe?) Can any one offer confirmation/advice

My new Vanda baby might have brown spot (if I've diagnosed correctly) and my new Aliceara might have some sort of leaf spot (again, if I'm correct).

They are now in a less humid environment, so I think that should help, but I'd like to know if I've diagnosed these correctly, and I'm dearly hoping that someone might share their advice/preferred methods of treatment with me

Thank you in advance!

I keep reading that I should cut all infected tissue off and spray the wound with anti-fungal/bacterial chemicals, but the solution i bought suggests that just spraying the surface 3 times (once a week) will kill the infectious agent

The only one that looks bad to me is the last picture. The other spots on the first 2 pictures almost look like "sun freckles". How is the plant doing now? Are the brown spots getting bigger, wetter, or drying up?

The third photo is worrisome for infection with something, especially the spot with what looks like a ring of soft, wet tissue around the brown dot. I couldn't find a photo like the third in Mote's book on growing Vandas in Florida. There is a chapter on fungal diseases.

Here is a good link from the St Augustine (Florida) Orchid Society:

Orchid Pests, Orchid Diseases

Keep us informed.

Thank you all so much for your help!!!!

as far as the Aliceara goes:
The spots are all the same size, but there are so many on so many leaves- it's too difficult for me to tell if new ones are forming.

But- I am guessing that I should move the plant to a shadier spot if the apparent cell-necrosis is due to overexposure
am I right?

The Vanda:
The spots look about the same to me-

Now, that could be because it wasn't actually an infection, or because after posting this, I immediately sprayed my baby down with the "Bayer Advanced 3-in-1 Insect, Disease & Mite Control" I bought from Home Depot when I (gladly) had to cause the extinction of mealy bugs in my home.

I don't know if it will penetrate the cell walls and kill what ever infectious agent may have caused the spots, but the label suggests that it should.

...so... it's a tough call I suppose. I will let you all know if there is any change in the spots, but at the moment I am fairly resolved to continue with the spraying regime Bayer suggested on the label (1 time every week for 3 weeks)

I agree with the others that the last picture is the worrisome of the group. A lot of Oncidiums get leaf spotting, much like many if not most Zygopetalums/hybrids. In that case I do believe the spotting is from some kind of fungus but it's more an issue of looks. That said I'd keep the Vanda away from others especially when watering. I had something like Brown Rot on my Huntleya and used Inocucor. The rot stopped but I'm still feeling guarded about the plant...that's another story.

Good luck & keep us posted.
