Hey folks!

I've had this since September 2014.
It is a Miltassia Charles M Fitch Izumi.

The brown spotting started in a small spot on the leaf above the pseudobulb. Then a few months later, the plant started yellowing slightly. It has barely put out new roots, and now this "rash" of brown spots has spread through the whole plant.

The brown spots are not textured. They are neither raised nor depressed, and completely flush with the leaf. They are on the undersides of the leaf and not on the top of the leaf.

Do you have any ideas about what this might be and if it is treatable?

Should I trash it and buy a new one?

Thanks!

This is something milts and oncids are prone too. If you love it, keep it, because even buying a new one likely won't keep you from getting these spots. It's unsightly but, for the most part, it's not harmful to the plant.

Spotty leaves is one of the major reasons I choose not to grow Oncids anymore. Same w/Zygos...they get black spots that make them ugly. I love many of the flowers...but can't stand the ugly foliage.

Your spotting really isn't very bad...I've seen much, much worse. I've grown much, much worse.

My Sharry Baby has also spotting - I used to cut those leaves, but now I can't be bothered anymore.

As long as the plant is healthy and blooms for you, I wouldn't trash it.

None of my others have this type of spotting. Yes, my colmanara and sharry baby and nelly isler all have some kind of spotting, but I really think this is different and atypical for a healthy oncidium.

I feel like this is a symptom of something wrong rather than normal blemishes, because the plant isn't thriving like my others.

Yeah, the issue is that the plant is not so healthy and it is becoming pale in addition to the spotting.

Hmm...

Is it getting a lot of sun? To me that looks like red pigmentation more than the usual Oncidium spotting. Pale leaves would also indicate a lot of sun. Some of the Oncidium hybrids prefer more shade than others. Maybe it is getting a little stressed.

I checked this in OrchidWiz and the species that make this hybrid prefer low to medium light (shade to dappled light).

No, it stays in bright or low indirect sunlight always. It gets the same treatment as all of my other oncidiums, which is why I think it is sick.

Decided to revive this thread because I'm having a similar issue.
I've put the plant outside today and I'm on the third fungicide application without any significant changes (although it won't work instantaneously).
