Oncidium with small spots on pseudobulbs
Default Oncidium with small spots on pseudobulbs

I've had this oncidium for about a month or so, and I'm starting to get a little worried about it. This is my first oncidium, but I've had phals before (which didn't go so well, for a few reasons...) and I'm paranoid about losing another one so quickly. When I watered it today I noticed some very tiny black spots clustering on 2 of the pseudobulbs, which don't scrape off at all.

Based on what I'd read at the time I bought the plant, I figured it was mostly healthy, but some of the pseudobulbs were really shrivelled, so I was wondering if that might have something to do with it. I've been watering once a week - the moss gets dry for all but the bottom part of the pot, which stays a bit moist by the end of each week.

Another problem I'm looking to solve: I found 3 black/brown bugs when I watered today that were very small (no more than a couple mm long), but didn't resemble any of the usual pests I've been seeing on different sites. I was going to try the dish soap thing or look for an insecticide today. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

Thank you!

I can't see anything that looks concerning - but maybe others will have a different opinion, or see something I am missing ...

After that is finished blooming, I would pot into a smaller pot.

Thank you both for the peace of mind, I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't turn into a problem.

WhiteRabbit, I was thinking that the pot might be too big when I bought it, so I'll take your advice. For the medium, should I switch to just bark? I haven't taken it out of the pot to inspect, but from feeling around it I think the seller put bark on the bottom and moss on the top. The room it's in can get pretty dry, so I was thinking the moss might keep some humidity around the plant. But on the other hand, I don't want it to be too wet. Thanks again!
