I am using this product now to fight some mealybugs. So far, I have not seen any adverse effects from the chemical solution. However, the orchids are not happy about the mealys at all. I have one orchid that is currently sulking. I have only applied the 3 in 1 once, but I was using the Bayer Natria before, and that was not too taxing on the orchids either. I think Bayer makes good insecticides that are safe for the plants if used properly.

My bottle does advertise it's a systemic once you read through the little booklet affixed to the back of the bottle. I got mine from Amazon and they also state that it is a systemic insecticide.

I had bad luck with that product, well, pretty much any product.
Whatever you do, test on one leaf first and wait one week to see if any negative reaction occurs.

I learned the hard way.

Plants prayed (paphiopedilums, cattleyas, and dendrobiums) either dried up and died, or near death condition. I'm so sad. no more spraying of chemical for me.

I have had the hardest time finding the actual 3-n-1 that everyone recommends... I couldn't find it at Lowes (even asked, to no avail).. Finally found it at ACE Hardware! Yay!! (now, I have many "back-up's", they're similar, but not "it", versions, lol).

As some might have noticed, I am having a slight problem with (hard) Scale (as is SJF) I thought I'd gotten rid of them w/ soap & a good scrape, & a repot... Nope... Found some on a couple somewhat-recent 'present' (bday present) orchids (& no, the presents didn't come that way - [they're from a very reputable nursery]... but the bag babies, did! )

Oh, and just for future reference, is the Rose & Flower one the one that is safe to use on buds/flowers? I feel like I read that on a thread recently...

Thank you in advance!!
Hi Mary Linn,
I am glad you asked this question. I have been searching too.
Darn scale. I have yet to hear back from Better Gro...disappointing

After 1 week of using the Bayer 3 in 1, I see no more mealybugs. I will continue to use the insecticide for the 2 additional treatments, but it seems to be working well...yay!!!

I am also trying to be very careful to spray every 10 days instead of doing it sooner. I am treating Paphs and Phals.

@Orchids44 I live in Salisbury (where I'm from, & live in the winter/early spring/late fall), but the Lowes near us, told me they didn't sell it... I actually found it at ACE hardware up in Hatteras, NC (I am on Ocracoke island, on the Outer Banks of NC)... But, if you get enough ppl together for a group order on the Safari, I'd be very interested! Please PM me and let me know when/if you do!

Thanks Dreamgoil! Yea, I read thru mine, and it didn't say, just said "lasts for 30 days" lol, Bayer has SO MANY different, but very similarly named products, I wasn't sure! That's the annoying thing about them! Lol! I'm glad to hear you are winning that war against those mealies! Keep on fightin'!!!

NYCorchidman, thanks for that warning! I will certainly test one leaf first! Thank you, and I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with it

Kindrag, yep, I've got neem, but I wanted something I could put on my orchids, and not have to spray often, so that I wouldn't kill something that was on my orchids, but wasn't actually eating them... Like my spiders, and praying mantises.. etc. ya know? I don't wanna spray more stuff than I have to!

Orchidsarefun, I'm gonna order some of those granules you have, b/c that's exactly what I want... (I saw them at OrchidWeb, for $12) I'll prob spray them when/before I bring them inside, but the granules are what I will be using otherwise... So, thank you!

SJF, I know!!! That's part of why I asked! Lol, I was hoping to find something for both of us! It is disappointing! I'm worried about the fact that scale seems very good at hiding... That's why I wanted a systemic.. So I could kill them all! (but, I don't wanna kill my spiders )

Maybe they repackaged at some point because I did see the label of what I received was different than what was on the site. And yes, the fact that the products have such similar names does make it really confusing.

I purchased these three products in Home Depot. I wasn't sure which one would be best or if I should keep more than one to use in a rotation.

The all say that they are safe for use on roses. I want to use it as a drench in the pots.

The first one is:
Spectracide Malathion
Insect Spray Concentrate
50% malathion (says it contains xylene range aromatic solvent)

The second one is:
Ortho Rose and Flower Insect and disease control
Acetamiprid .26%
Triticonazole .78%

The third one is:
Bayer Advanced 3-in-1
Insect, Disease, & Mite Control
Imidacloprid .47%
Tau-Fluvalinate .61%
Tebuconazole .65%

I would greatly appreciate advice and suggestions.
