Help mini phal turning yellow from base up!
Exclamation Help mini phal turning yellow from base up!

AAAaargh! Do phals get some kind of basal rot?!
This one's been flowering for months and months, and it stopped last week, so I cut off the spikes. Now it has three leaves from the base up turning yellow! I'm not sure it's rot, hasn't been watered for ages, could it be dehydration? Roots look mainly healthy but some are shrivelled up. No mushy ones though. I have no idea what this is, please please help!

Yes, they can get rot anywhere, but if its been a really long time since you watered and roots are shriveling up the. I'd suspect lack of water. Could you post a pic or two?

An another note, it is natural for Phals to she'd their older bottom leaves as time goes in. Just not sure that's the case with yours.

As stated in the comedic book "Orchid Territory" by an orchid growing air pickled in gin, "If Phals and Paphs look like the need to be watered, they should have been watered YESTERDAY!" LOL... I'm still laughing at her overly simplistic watering suggestion...

Default Thank you

Thank you for replying so quickly, Watered it this morning so roots look a little better than they did, worst leaf has fallen off since the last time I posted, I think it might be dehydration but there are plenty of other things it could be.
Sorry pictures won't upload, can't seem to make them go in any way I try, the yellow covers most of each leaf, sometimes with a brown splodge in the middle, leaves are a bit floppy, but not soft to the touch, the roots are mostly green and healthy but some on the side with the most dying leaves are brown, dry and shriveled, by the way, the last few buds it had shriveled up and fell off when almost fully grown, and I treated the leaves with baby bio leaf shine the other day, something it has never minded in the past, but maybe because it was thirsty it absorbed some leaf shine through the leaves but it wasn't good for it? Let me know if you need any more detail, sorry again for lack of images.

If you're having trouble uploading, the issue is likely the size. You need to resize photos before uploading, the limit should be indicated in the upload window.
Photos will help us a lot in telling you if it's normal, or not.
