Won't that kill the squirrels? It sounds like a horrible death by constipation to me.

Yeah I am not into killing them. I would be happy probably if there were more hawks around the neighborhood. Today they did not visit. It usually happened in the springtime in the mornings after rainfall. I will probably make some peanut butter and habaneros. I thought of sticky traps along teh access route but it is too cruel .I shoudl spray weekly plants with pepper and garlic. ALso I got Blood meal that many websites state that repels squirrels and other rodents.

The probable reason sqirrels are such a pest is that something happoned to the natural predators. So its time to become the predator. Not into cruelty to animals but my orchids are expensive and if its a choice between my plants and doing something to the pest - the pest looses. They have owl figurines - that might work. Also spraying the area with a mix of vinegar and lemon juice. It is said to smell like a predators urine.

I have heard that most critters hate the smell of ammonia for that reason.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a Hav-a-heart trap. Set it up with a mixture of peanut butter and oatmeal. Trap the varmints and release them somewhere else. Worked for us when they were eating DH's tomatoes. No poison, no fumes, no nasty chemicals. No dead squirrels. Might not want to mention this to anyone in authority, though. In some places it seems to be illegal. ?????

Yes it is illegal to feed wild animals in some places.
Alligators, bears,coons, skunks wild pigs and many more appeal to some as cute little cudly forest creatures. Squirrels may seem harmless to humans but fleas, ticks, lice and all kinds of unsavory diseases are hosted by furry little forest creaturess.
That alone would lead me to find a way to get rid of them. My garage in Arkansas has been badly damaged by squirrels. I have bats in my attic and chimney. Maybe I have "bats" somewhere else but I can tell you they dont care where they poop. As far as I am concerned, They will find another home as will the coyotes, and wolves. What do I feed them - livestock calves, young horses, cats, or dogs? City people have a differant take on this kind of thing. For me it is enough to be a very deadly marksman. I came home from Vietnam vowing never to kill again but when my property is at rist -Austa La vista baby.

My parents just had to have repairs done to their minivan because the squirrels got under the van and chewed the wires leading from the transmission.$$$
This is the second incident. The first time they chewed on the brake lines on my dad's truck. I think when these kinda things happen the squirrels have to go, ginnibug

Do you have to put them outside? Its so hard to control what happens to them out there...animals, bugs,all that. Ive never put my orchids outside, they stay inside all summer in the south windows and do beautifully...and stay clean. Having orchids outside creates so much more work, it seems?
