I have a masdie with some spots like that on a leaf or two...but, it seems to be doing well putting up lots of new leaves and roots so I stopped worrying. For what it's worth, I've also bought several plants from Andy's and never had any trouble at all. Interesting article Bill thanks for passing it along.

andys a wild orchid guy too so a lot of cleaning and preening isnt on the menu from andys...

that masdie is fine. I dont like spots on my leaves either but Im starting to just let things slide and let them go wild

its just a a plant dont get upset. at times unsightly leaves are as much an integral part of the plant as much as the beautiful flower. I remove them If possible but many dont . Preference...

I complained a few times about bad plants. Months later I still feel horrible about it. There people, and what looks to you as bad, might to them, with the thousands they see, actually look pretty damn good ..I just bought 3 dendrobiums and 2 look good one was and is very sad..He would replace it I'm sure, but he has to make a living and its probably not they fault. I personally feel like I dont wish to add to their cost of doing business as an orchid grower bec there are so few of them left we need to coddle them all we can while we can..So I accept

Ive come to understand that orchid growers and vendors have the same troubles we do with the plants. They have learned as maybe I have that small imperfections dont affect the ability of the plant to thrive if proper care is given.

We all love the perfect plant..Unfortunately they dont sell them

I have about 30 plants from Andy and when I had a concern about one, he or his staff would always explain what's going on!!! I'm sure he'll exchange it if you really want.

I would buy some physan 20 or neem oil.... just in case. Always good to spray once a month.

I personally don't worry to much about small black spots like that, it is unsightly if you were looking for a pristine plant but it shouldn't hurt it if you give it the right conditions now.

If you're gonna buy from Andy's, you'd better expect your plants to look kinda feral, since they're grown as they would be in their native habitats. I talked to Andy about it a few months ago, and since then, he has usually sent me very nice plants (which have come and met their untimely deaths LOL). The only time I get "bad" plants is when someone other than Andy or Harry process my orders. The two know me and my tastes very well now.

However, the plant is still alive, and I do know that some members of this group have a tendency to spot. I'll let others with more masdie experience chime in.

That is true also. If you look at how they appear in nature usually they are pretty messed up. We want to grow perfect ones but it's not always possible. We can get close.......but never really perfect. In nature they can look horrible by comparison.
