me thinks scar tissue from growing up like stretch marks...excuse me

I have an older catt that has the same type of lines and streaking across the back of the leaves by the stalk and down the stalk. They are very hard and you cant even scratch em off with yer fingernail..So its part of the plant not something IMO that could become a problem..Its unsightly yes but we know the orchids unsightly side..

1 vote for scar tissue

actually was a very very good cycle of growth occuring when it happened and in fact every catt with bifoliate parentage in the background that I have has made bifoliate leads during this growth cycle ....and I mean almost every lead they made not just one or two ...in fact one made 10 or 12 leads and all but one I think are bifoliate this time

I'm tempted to say the same thing, looks like it's damage during growth. Maybe you accidently brushed that leaf against something rough, maybe some visiting insect fed on the tender developing tissue... Whatever the cause, it looks pretty harmless.

so far no bugs in the room ...I am agressive on pest control....systemic and contact ....fungas controll with the same product plus physan 20 ....

brushing the leaf and causing the damage is pretty much ruled out because I have at least two more plants with the same symptoms ....

Discussing it with a fellow Ob member in chat tonight I pretty much determined it happened within the time frame of Janurary 30 and Oh say March 4 or so .....

The only real changes occuring in this period was that I brought home new orchids from a show ....and decided to do My monthly pesticide and fungal spraying routine.....since quarrentine of the new plants was realy not possible ....
and added superthrive to the routine

I waited about a week after spraying and unpotted new seedlings to check roots and found rotted roots very few good roots and bad medium, so I repotted all the small seedlings into hydrotron and decided to start using superthrive in with my regular watering and feeding to help the new seedling get root growth in gear and get them established a bit better ...also at the time decided to use a touch of potassium nitrate and cut my orchids plus fertilizer back a bit to allow for the addition of that ....

so the change was superthrive added to water and fert mix and used pretty regular for that month, and the use of a bit more potassium and nitrogen and less phorsorous ....

the seedlings have taken off extreamly well new root growth initiated immediately on most of them and new eyes a week or so later ....but I found maybe three older chids developing this will have to pay a bit more attention today and count them for sure ....

Growth occuring too fast and causing it I am favoring ...but still want input

Maybe it's the superthrive then? It's known to cause bloom deformities, maybe it can affect the leaves as well.

Or it's some sort of Oedema.

leaning towards that very strongly Camille on exactly that assumption ....but am still looking forward to finding out if anyone else has ever experianced similar symptoms .....would be good to document that a bit.

I have seen it discussed several times in reference to blooms but not to leaf deformities....I do have a few other minor leaf deformities but just wavy edges and not as symetrical as I would like, not rough in texture or black spots ect.

Does an orchid leaf have a main vein down the center ? if so maybe too much all at once ? Plus higher light once indoors, a chemical reaction ?
