Strange discoloration on Phal

Hi all--

Here are some pics. Its on a HUGE NOID I've had for a while now and have never seen this before. Not all of the leaves have this-- only two or three, this one being the most obvious. There are is no apparent change in texture of quality of leaf-- its simply a discoloration.

The plant is currently in bloom and moved about two or so months ago to a brighter location because it was spiking and it needed more room to grow. Could this be too much sun? Or is it something more serious?

I had this same thing happen to one of my white Phals. I was growing it in high light because I was living in an apartment at the time and only had one large window to choose from. When I moved it out of that location and into a shadier spot it slowly went back to normal. But it lived in the sunny location for over a year with that discoloration and was doing fine.

I agree that it could be a light intensity issue. I had a similar experience with some of my phals, and I know that it was caused by light that was too intense.

Sometimes the discoloration stays, other times it disappears after the lighting levels are corrected.

Phew, that's a relief. I have a Sogo Grape that has had that discoloration for a couple of years. The issue of light does make sense because I grow her under lights. Apparently the discoloration does not hurt the plant because as I said it has been growing and flowering that way for a long time. I'm really glad you posted those pictures,though, and am relieved to know it is not some bacterial thing--I love that phal!! Thanks

Thanks guys-- if this is in fact a high light issue, thank God, because viruses are so serious. I would hate to toss such a prized plant (only prized by me but hey there is nothing wrong with a phal that has four blooming spikes!). It would make sense, though, as the leaves that are affected are ones that grew during a hotter and more sunnier time of year. The newest leaf and the ones before the affected leaves show no signs. My Kaleidescope has very dark foliage in general so it makes sense that it might not like all the sun it's gotten recently (it too moved to a sunnier spot) but the Purple Martin still worries me a bit. It gets as much sun as the other in its little group but it seems to be the only affected one. Although, I suppose it could be said the others like the higher light since most are or have bellina or violacea genes in them.

Its growing a new leaf now, so I guess we'll see if the new one is like this.
