Default Physon 20 questions

I bought some Physon 20 so that I have it on hand if I need it. The directions say to mix 2 tsps. per 20 gallons of water. Do any of you mix smaller amounts? If so, what proportions do you use? Also, if a plant is infected with fungas, do you spray it on or dip the plant into the mix? Sorry about all of the questions, but I want to be sure I use it correctly. Thanks.

Hi Minda,

Don't know if you have the pamphlet that comes with the bottle of Physan 20. Here is a link to it in case you don't: Physan 20 and click on the General Instructions link. To spray or soak your orchid, it says to use 1 teaspoon per gallon. To disinfect pots, shears, workbenches, etc. use 1 tablespoon per gallon.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, very much, for your reply. If a pamphlet came with it, I may have thrown it out with the packing. I misread the instructions on the bottle, so I printed the instructions from the link you posted. As always, this forum rocks!!

Physan 20 is a good preventitive product also. Some growers use it once a month to prevent bacteria and fungus problems. I use it regularly during the summer months when it's warm and humid here in Florida. Good luck.

If I need to put a plant in Physon 20, should I put it on roots and leaves, and should I then rinse the plant before repotting?

I mix up 1 tablespoon of Physan 20 per gallon of water in one or two buckets when I'm repotting. I place the pot that I'm going to use in the Physan for a few minutes. I also dunk the roots of the orchid in it. You can drench the whole plant in it if you like but I concentrate on the roots. If you're doing several plants you can put the pots in one bucket and treat the plants in the second. During the summer when fungus and bacteria can be a problem I spray the plants and the potting medium with the same strength mixture. Fill up your bucket or sprayer with water first and then add the Physan. If you put the Physan in first, adding water will create a huge amount of foam. Good luck.
