Dendrobium Hibiki. Fungus infection?
Default Dendrobium Hibiki. Fungus infection?

Hello,

Today I acquired a Dendrobium Hibiki. The plant looks very nice and of good size, but there are some black spots on the leaves. By the shape, it seems like a fungus. What do you think?

Has anyone had a similar fungus/infection? How did you treat it?

Thank you very much!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Fungus generally is a problem only in high relative humidity environments. It may have been grown in a humid greenhouse. If you're going to grow it in a lower humidity home it is unlikely to spread.

Photograph the leaves to compare in the future. Clean the leaves with a tissue and 70% alcohol, or slightly soapy water. Then observe the plant. If the spots don't get much larger, and if new growth is spot-free, you won't need to worry.

A fungicide will not be effective against all different fungi. Before using fungicides you should know which fungus you are treating, and whether the fungicide you have treats that fungus. Fungicides are rarely necessary in a home, because of the lower relative humidity.

Thank you very much!

I’ll clean the leaves using alcohol 70% and I will take photos to be surr that the infection does not progress.

Thanks!!
