I don't think that wire will help... the idea behind the copper "band" is that as the slug or snail crawl over it, it gets an electric shock. A wire would not have the surface area to deter a determined slug.

Bumping this as slugs for a lot of people are going to crop up.

Found one that ate part of a root tip of one of my Neos that has red root tips. Luckily it has plenty of other roots.

First time any of them have actually gotten on any of the plants. I pulled the bugger off, slammed him on the ground, treated the plants damaged root with some Cinnamon Leaf Oil + Isopropyl Alcohol mixture, squirted that mixture on several other plants as a precaution, squirted the rest on the slug and then covered it with an empty pot to bake in the warm weather we have today.

If I had a magnum and some snake shot, I would've shot the thing like the dog it is to send a message to the other slugs.

You can just pick up the slug and squish it between your fingers. Also works with caterpillars on tomatoes, peppers and cabbage crops.
